Birds by Toikka, Finnish design legend Oiva Toikka’s iconic collection of glass birds, took flight in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory. Created in close collaboration with the glassblowers, the collection combined Toikka’s passion for nature and blown glass art. In 2014 the production of the series was transferred to the Iittala Glass Factory, where Toikka continued his close partnership with the team. Each handcrafted and mouthblown bird is unique down to the minute detail. This gives every bird its own personality making it a truly one of a kind art object. Iittala re-launches the original Flycatcher design from the 1970’s. The colourful bird features a small body in warm copper with a lemon beak. Reflects light beautifully. A lovely home decoration that makes a precious gift.
Birds by Toikka
Oiva Toikka (1931-2019) is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. Since then hundreds of new birds have joined the flock. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. Today, each glass bird is handcrafted and mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory.
